012911 DLSU-D Nostalgia

I AM A LASALLIAN! A Lasallian from the South<whappak!> By “from the south” I mean, I call De La Salle University – Dasmariñas my alma mater! Hail! Hail! Alma Mater. And although there are a number of Lasallian schools/universities in the country, we are the ones who proudly hold a big machete instead of a bow and arrow.
A few weeks ago, I was tagged in a picture on Facebook by a good friend that the Associate Dean of our college, the College of Business Administration, the Home of Achievers, is requesting our presence in the college’s alumni home coming. I gave it some thought, then said YES since I was not able to attend last time and can’t recall when was the last time that I visited my alma mater. I’m not sure if I was there last last year around March or April, although I am pretty sure it was a summer. Boy, that was a long time indeed.  I expected there would be changes already since there were areas in the school where that were under renovation, where old buildings were being remodelled and others demolished to make way for new ones.  The ultimate goal for all of these changes higher standards! Heck yeah, were moving up!
You might be wondering why was the associate dean wanted us there. Well, we were part of the previous student council officers some 5 years before. And we needed hers and the deans signature to get our projects done. Plus, we considered her a good friend who never failed to give us guidance and a good conversation.
I was excited the night before to finally get to visit my alma mater plus get to see familiar faces of classmates, batch mates, and professors plus the places within the universities that are memorable. By 1:30 pm I left our house anticipating the traffic. It normally took me 1 and a half hour to 2 hours to get to school before. Surprisingly, it took me an hour. Time was 2:30 pm when I was on a 5 minute jeep ride and since I still have time, I got off the jeep at the 3rd gate of our school. I smoked a few minutes to brace myself for the changes. When I got my bearings as well as my alumni card, I walked through the gates.
I first saw this big counter that counts down the days to the 100 years presence of La Salle in the Philippines which would fall in June. The guards of the 3rd gate were the same ones as I remember. Signed in the log book and I was in. Now the first thing that you have to face from this gate is an uphill walk to get to our gym which now has a fresh paint over its walls. This hill made me catch my breath since I just smoked or I was not in shape. Well, maybe both <smirk>. There is a walkway from there leading to the schools biggest parking lot which was next to the grandstand and track which was also in front of the school farm. No changes yet. Although I noticed personalization of clay tiles along the walkway. Might consider getting one of this tile to add to the bunch already installed. This particular walkway is the longest one in school and was the one which we took normally since this was the nearest gate for our building. Rounding the end of the walkway, I was our college’s building. Still no changes but it brought a smile to my face for no particular reason. Since maybe I finally saw it again or I was just happy to approach it again. I deliberately slowed walking down as I looked at the facade of our building. There was no changes but I was just the way I liked it. The building in front of the CBA building was MTH (I honestly don’t  forgot the meanings of the acronyms.. heheh) which housed the CBA SC office during our time. T’was already painted new. Not much changes too. A few meters ahead, is the CEAT building in front of the Administration building, VBH next to a big batibot( this is a raised area where student can spend their free time chatting with friends, eating, etc). This was where I normally stayed for lunch during my first few days in DLSU-D(loner much?) next was the Square Canteen, where different concessionaires have their food stall on 3 sides of the square. The last side of the square was left open so that people dining would see the Lake Park where most of the events were held before we had the grandstand. This was also the place where I first hosted ever so it was really memorable for me. Turning left you would see the main road which passes by the schools dormitory, the school museum, the chapel plus the big fountain in front of it, the lake, the botanical garden, and the newly finished SBC canteen and book store. The biggest shocker ever was the new College of International Hospitality Management building.. Really cool with its tall windows matching the Spanish design. This was the venue for our alumni home coming. Inside was a spacious area where tables were set as well as a small stage behind this cute fountain creating soothing sounds of water. Relaxing. I was like a big hotel. The familiar faces of friends and professors followed. There was a lot of chatting, his and hellos, and how are yous. I really appreciated each face that I saw and the conversations that was made. As in really. It was like being in school again during our free time. The only change was we were older and more mature and we were just visiting.
After the program, our group went around our campus again to drench ourselves with much wanted nostalgia of what happened to us. We went to all the buildings, shared stories and took pictures as we were not sure when we would be able to visit again.
Being back in my alma mater reminded me of who I was then: a student who wanted to graduate with a degree, a leader who was involved (well I think I was), a friend who cared, a person who wanted to be successful, a CBA student who was an achiever, and a Lasallian with green blood (yes green in more ways than one).
I would say not much has changed in me. But my time in DLSU-D definitely prepared me for life outside the corners of our university.

So to my alumni friends, the best of luck on our careers and endeavours. We need to get together again soon. To the students, make the most out of your college days and be involved. It will help you a lot. Promise.
ANIMO LASALLE!

012311 Put yourself out there

Risk is defined in the dictionary as possibility. A yes or a no. Success or failure. Winning or losing.
Unfortunately, risking is one thing I’m not entirely good at.. Well, in the matters of the heart that is. By that I mean I’m not a risk taker when it comes to love. And since i admitted it now, you can add that to the list of the things that i suck at.
But when it comes to love, luck is very picky . Not everyone gets their “happily ever after” ending. Though some might get it and will just last for..<thinking> hmmm.. well, a week perhaps? Hahaha. Sorry but i think that is just plain mean but somehow true. There are some “happily ever after but only for a day” moments in someone’s life. Right? I am I right? Let me know please.
I said that because we might be partying out then making this eye contact with a random stranger that makes majority of  the checks from your standards. Then comes a whirlwind of flirting, dancing and touching  that might end up with sex for the night. But as a whirlwind is, it comes and goes. And it might be literally “come and go” thing <wink>.  There’s nothing wrong about that believe me. I would like to experience that like really soon too.
After much deliberation as to why I can’t put myself out there as in FAR OUT THERE is because I am still not completely FREE. Those who know me personally might know by what I mean about that statement. For the rest of you, i’ll leave you to your imaginations plus an apology for not sharing it <puppy dog eyes>. I know who I am really but i guess i’m just not that comfortable still in my own skin. I have always wanted to be free. Another thing that hinders me is the stories of break ups, of cheaters, of pain. I guess i’m a pessimist to when it comes to love an always neglect to look at the positive side of love: of it conquering all, of it changing lives, of it starting a life. There’s also the thinking that I don’t need it. Weird right? Me saying I don’t need love is like equivalent to me saying I don’t need meat. If we put it that way, i can say that love is meat. And I am a vegetarian, hypothetically speaking. Sometimes i think that, I survived with the love from friends and family for 24 years in the running and still turn out to be ok. But honestly, surviving with just love from friends and family is like being one of the Cullens in Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga: Drinking animal blood to quench the thirst but never really satisfied. And I want to be satisfied.
Well now you know the things that hold be back. Personally identifying these reasons, made me realize that I am still not sucked into the eternal vortex of single blessedness and there is still and always hope for me. I just need to learn to take risks and put myself out there. Maybe one of these days, I might just change my status from single to “it’s really complicated”! HAHAHAH :P

011911 World Travel Show Host

World Travel Show Host
The best job EVER in the entire world based on my standards would be a host of a travel show!
Whoever would not want to travel to different place at get to experience the culture and sights that each nook and cranny of a travel destination would offer. If, i say IF, by sudden luck, a network would offer me a job as a travel show host, i would definitely say “YES!”. No questions asked. Just a big fat “YES!”
That is how much I LOVE travelling. I’d be willing to leave in an instant despite my love for my job at the moment! I’d be an idiot if i won’t jump at that kind of opportunity.
Who else in the entire world get to go from one place to another experiencing everything a location has to offer: food, night life, alcohol, beaches and oceans, secret rivers/coves etc, and just talks about it in front of a camera trying to explain every emotion felt, flavours tasted, scenery seen and it is all for FREE??!  A WORLD TRAVEL TALK SHOW HOST!
I have always been so jealous of all the hosts of all the shows that I see in TLC’s Fun Asia and National Geographic’s World Travels, which I am currently watching at the moment, simultaneously. And they just get to go everywhere! Watching them relay their experiences on the locations that they are in makes me think of what I would do if I were there with them or much rather, what would I do if I was doing their show.
Ah life.. it just have a way to make one frustrated..
Should I become a travel show host and have the liberty of going to countries that I prefer, I would go to the following locations:
1.       Philippines – Of course I would have to start with my own country. I’d show the world Batanes, Ilocos, Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Palawan, Camiguin, and everywhere else.
2.       Japan – the main purpose for me to visit Japan would be of the Cherry Blossom Tree.. I would just love to see if it’s leaves are really pink and if the effects that Japanese animators do whenever they show a cherry blossom tree wherein the leaves are being gently blown away by the wind..HAHAHA..
3.       China -  the GREAT WALL of CHINA <KAPOW!>  plus the ”bird’s nest”( architectural spectacle), and DUMPLINGS GALLORE!
4.       Greece – Ruins are FIERCE! Plus they have this resort overlooking the Mediterranean Sea where all the buildings are white or white washed. I don’t know what’s the name of that place but that is definitely a place to be
5.       Italy – ROME, VENICE, VATICAN, ciao  bellas! Renaissance and masquerades plus the beautiful people.. GELLATO!! Of course, all roads lead to Rome but there are some connecting roads to Vatican and a river to Venice
6.       India – Taj Mahal, and religious Hindu locations. The food here is one reason to visit too!  It would be amazing to try the life of a transgender here as they are revered and sometimes feared here.
7.       France – PARIS! Paris! <deep breath> Of course the Eiffel Tower!
8.       England – Long live the Queen and Prince Harry too!<wink> The castles and dungeons of London’s past might be a good place to see.. TEA!
9.       Egypt – Great Pyramids and the river Nile and lots and lots of sand and dunes and camels.
10.   Iceland – THE BLUE LAGOON need I say more plus reindeers.. Maybe the real Santa Claus lives here too. I’ll let you know if I find out about it..
11.   Australia –Sydney Opera House, The Great Barrier Reef. KANGAROOS AND KOALAS! Where everybody says “Goodday mate”. The lingo is interesting enough as well as a dingo.
I would like to add more but I might end up listing every country that I know. And it’s a llllooooonnnnggggg list. HAAHAHAHA. I learn about the places to travel to in travel shows and books and the internet. And each time I watch and read about destinations, I couldn’t help but wonder (Carrie Bradshaw moment?!?), when will be my turn?
Not everyone has the luxury of travel. It is sometimes reserved for the rich and famous or of the middle class who took the time and effort to save. I personally have no discipline when it comes to money(read my other blog entries and you’ll know why). But I’m pretty sure the experience I would be priceless.. My chances of travelling to international locations might not materialize now. But I made a vow that i will not travel abroad without travelling the Philippines first. How can I compare the beauty of the Philippines to other countries without knowing what we have to offer.
I already have a passport but am currently using it as a valid id. I hope within the year, I can have stamped and be granted entry to a foreign country.. Singapore perhaps??We’ll see..

010811 pizza loner time

what a way to spend the first official weekend of 2011! i am currently at yellow cab near our place in las pinas,,enjoying a 10" NY classic pizza all by my self, which at this time, i have already consumed! what a gluttonous act indeed..HAHAHAHAHA..

see what i mean??

i would have taken a picture of the entire pizza but it would just look awkward and weird to everybody else here at the piza joint.. "a guy on his own is taking a picture of his food.. what a weirdo?!?!" they would say if they did see me.. so i just sneakily took a picture of me devouring the last remaining piece of my pizza through Bookie's webcam.. hahaha

i woke up at around 1:00pm(super late right?!?). i woke up late since i came home at around 1:30 am from a meeting with my ambigram friends and fell asleep at around 3:00 am from watching TV!hahahaha.. nocturnal would be the best word to describe it.. hahahahah..i ate my first meal of the day then watched more TV, and more TV, and more TV..couch potato much??!

at around 4:30, i decided to work but wanted to do it outside of our house as i might not reach my "work mode" because of all the distractions. i thought of going our to a nearby starbucks, order chamomille tea, light a smoke, then work but thought.. that would be too expensive! PHP 105 for a venti hot tea that was just hot water and a tea bag.. so i decided to have pizza! when i got to yellow cab i ordered and was shocked to see my bill which ended to be much more expensive..damn my "pagmamayaman"(translation = feeling rich) moments where i just spend money with minimal restraints!

before going to yellow cab, i dropped by a mall to by a sim card for the sun broadband that i borrowed from a friend only to discover while at yellow cab that i can't fully install the software! grrrrr w/ tear. then i tried to search for free LAN and found out that yellow cab has one.. CRAP! PHP 100 down the drain.. then i remembered that i was in "pagmamayaman" mode so i said, "it didn't matter"..damn right it didn't matter now but it will matter by monday..<sigh> alas, the world would make sense again by then.

enjoying a 10" pizza by yourself might begluttony. but it is a pleasure to be with nobody else but yourself to satiate your thirst for much needed alone time.. <BURP> hahaha
